A Progressive Dinner Out with Friends (1)

Christmas and New Year’s is the Season for celebrating with Family and Friends.

And here at The Everyday Home, we try to get together with as many of our loved ones as we can. About a week ago, a friend called me and asked if I felt up to meeting them for dinner. She said it was something a little “different.” Dinner. Different. Friends. Count us in! I had not been feeling well for several days, so I needed a little outing. A Progressive Dinner Out with Friends was just what the doctor ordered.

Iended the call with my friend with a promise thatshe would email me all of the details. That had me really guessing. What wasthat sneaky little thing up to? A short while later, true to her word, an email arrived with the time to meet and all of the places. What? Places? As in plural? Yep, we were going to be attending a Progressive Dinner Party. I know you have heard of a Progressive Dinner Party. Usually it begins at one person’s home for Appetizers then progresses to other’s homes until you arrive at the final home for dessert.

Well, that’s all well and good and fun. But, during this hustle and bustle of crazy holidays, everyone doesn’t have the time for a dinner in their home. So… why not take advantage of your local restaurants and hot spots by organizing a Progressive Dinner Out?

I think when my friend organized the event, she used some common sense and realized we would not want to drive around to lots of different places and restaurants. So she stuck to the basics…co*cktails and Appetizers, Wine and Tapas (dinner), and Coffee and Dessert. If you were in a larger city where you could walk to different locales that would be even better. Think of it as a Pub Crawl, but it’s a Progressive Dinner Crawl. 🙂

We started with co*cktails and Appetizers at our first location…

These Cranberry-Vodka co*cktails were festive and fitting for Christmas. Me and The Hubbs shared a small Charcuterie Plate for our Appetizer.

We spent about an hour laughing and enjoying each other’s company before leaving for our next locale.

The second stopwas a Tapas Restaurant. Tapas, or small plates, are the perfect choice for a Progressive Dinner. Everyone can order lots of different plates to share. It’s better than a large steak dinner, for example, where you eat and want to go home and veg on the couch the rest of the night. 😀

We started out with wine. Yum!

*Please drink and drive with caution, as always. We were lucky to have a Designated Driver that night. We each ordered about 2 small plates. I chose Smoked Shrimp Bruschetta and Marina Meatballs.

I love that there was so much of a variety to share, but there wasn’t so much food that you felt stuffed and uncomfortable. Besides, there was one more course and one more location to travel to.

We paid the bill and headed out to our final destination for Coffee and Dessert. For our last course we ended up at O’Charley’s for some of their amazing pie. Instead of ordering by the slice, we convinced the waitress to bring us the whole pie and a stack of plates, and we served ourselves. It was perfect. We even shared some slices with a cute couple sitting behind us.

All in all – it was a perfect night out with friends. Best of all, no one had to cook, there was no clean up and it was fun to visit three different restaurants when normally you would go out to only one. I can’t wait to do it again, and even plan the next event. What a great way to experience new restaurants you haven’t eaten at yet.

So now there’s no excuse for getting together with friends and family when you’re too busy or too tired to entertain at home. Plan a Progressive Dinner Party Out on the Town. Now make those calls to friends and start planning! 🙂
