Culture

First of all, when you start in Mount and Blade Bannerlord you will need to pick your cultural background. This is normal for every Mount and Blade game. What you need to know, is that it affects everything that you do in the game.

The biggest affection for the Culture is the loyalty of the fiefs that you will hold at the later stages of the game. If they are of the same culture as you, they will have much bigger loyalty. Each fief has loyalty to one of the 10 factions.

The best thing to counter this is just placing a companion as a governor with the same culture as the fief.

These here are the best cultures for specific things:

  • Aserai – if you want to play a very rich trader that will make riches and spoils this way, this is the one for you. Caravans will be 30% cheaper and also 10% reduction in trade penalty.
  • Khuzaits – dynamic archer cavalry playstyle. You will be able to recruit mounted troops much easier. Also, you get 25% bonus to horse and livestock production
  • Battania – one of the best cultures in the entire game. You get a 50% less speed penalty in forests. This is a game-breaker in the later stages of the game. You will have military production when owning towns.
  • Vlandians – you will get 5% more renown from battles and it really adds up as you progress through the game. You will have 15% more income as a mercenary is extremely useful in the mid-game.
  • Sturgia – they are the Vikings of the north. You can recruit and upgrade infantry troops much easier. You will have very big armies and upgraded tehm almost all the time to the max. Also, the morale of your armies is much stronger and longer. This is one of the weaker cultures in the game.
  • Empire – the best late-game option, especially for your own kingdom. You will have -20% Garrison cost which adds up to an insane amount of savings. You will also have very easy ways to farm influence with your companions. You will get less food production and military size but this is very easy to manage.

According to all of these, the top 3 best factions are the following:

  1. Aserai
  2. Empire
  3. Battania

Character Creation

The biggest thing that you need to know about the Character Creation is the Height. Believe it or not, it will affect your gameplay by a whole lot. This is how height affects your character:

  • Speed – you will be much faster when having a taller character
  • Damage – you will be dealing much more damage because you will be able to do an overhead swing slash

So we recommend making a giant of a character to get the most out of this.

Character Background

First of all, it all comes down to personal preference. Chose what you think will be suitable for your playstyle. If you want to go for long range, certainly pick a background that will give you some skills for the Bow and etc. It is important to have fun as a first.

Here everything is explained on what cultural background gives you more and what gives you less.

Skills

But if you are the type of person that will want to go full in and get the most out of the skill points, we recommend checking out Bannerlord Perks. It is a website that will let you play out with all the skills and calculate all the skills in the game.

Here it will show you how to level up your skills the best way and also how to combine them and organize them to be able to level up faster.

You will start out the game with at least 2 attribute points. If you have 7 Attributes and 5 Focus Points on one skill you will be able to unlock all of the perks given to you.
